I was coming up empty for this week's theme when our granddaughter, K, presented us with this spoon , hand-smithed by her very own 13-year-old self. It will hang on a wrought iron utensil rack in our kitchen forever after. Thank you, K!

Throw the bum out.
Better than
booing. Want to get a message to ARod?
When he is introduced and whenever he takes the field, let everyone in the
crowd soundlessly stand and turn 180°, remaining for a
full minute. Sometimes silence says it all.

If only I'd discovered this 50 years ago...
As winter was ending, I happened upon a PBS program with Dr. Michael Mosley discussing the new -to me- idea of Alternate Day Fast as an enhancement to health and, if desired, a way to lose unwanted fat. I was hooked and watched it twice. I have swung between the Overweight and Obese BMI ranges for most of my life of 70 years which translates to carrying around from 10 to 45 extra pounds. Following Weight Watchers and counting Points I have gotten close to but never achieved a BMI within the range of Normal (18.5-24.9). After living on the ADF regimen since late April, I am now in possession of a healthier me with a BMI of 24.6 and all I had to do was limit calories to 500 every other day! At first it was strange to be paying attention to calories after becoming a walking dictionary on WW Points. There are calorie counts for everything on line. It's summer and I have discovered Smoothies. The best thing for me about this program is that while there are periods of feeling hungry or just plain wanting to eat -hungry or not- I know the following day will be a comfortable one. Once I reach the middle range of Normal BMI, I will switch to the recommended 5-2 version (limit calories to 500 for 2 days in every 7) to continue gathering the health benefits that this regimen imparts: lowered LDLs & triglycerides, lowered risk of many cancers, diabetes, dementia, arthritis and cardiovascular maladies. I can't wait to get off the statin and be able to enjoy a grapefruit for the first time in a decade.
